Wind

Wind

1.
air in natural motion, as that moving horizontally at any velocity along the earth's surface: A gentle wind blew through the valley. High winds were forecast.
2.a gale; storm; hurricane.
3.any stream of air, as that produced by a bellows or fan.
4.air that is blown or forced to produce a musical sound in singing or playing an instrument.

[ENTRIES NOW CLOSED]

Jyoti Basera (116)

WindBent bamboos, flapping hay roofs, swaying eucalyptus and shivering shade trees. Unaffected tea bushes, excited barking dogs, cows rushing home and little girls gathering younger babies under tin shelters. Fishes jumping out of the pond, the lawn littered with falling amaltas, Buri our old maid scrambling to bring in the laundry while Mangal rushes to bring the cows and hens under shelter.

Tea pluckers hurry to get their baskets to the factory, their red cotton mekhelas flapping. There is salty lal cha brewing for them at the compound- a tanker full of it. There is frantic activity and suddenly I hear the bungalow start!! It shudders violently and the tin roof cracks…the wind is here.

Free Woman (48)

Hope, the fountain of life, sustains me

Dreams, desires, curiosity propel me

People, time, inexperience, deter me

But hope the fountain of life sustains me

Where do you come in O lord?

With the breeze of luck

And the wind of chance

You maneuver me towards my Fate

GSV(115)

"first breath through the wind pipe and journey started, and then all the seasons of life of my life were just an allegory of time and wind in juxtaposition.i was kid and that kite, and those paper made rockets were my wings to flutter in breeze.and those revolutionary days when i even challenged to change the direction of whirlwind, i laugh over it now..haha..and you can't guess how charismatic was that scene when i first met your mother on that windy day..so lovely..and how i fought all big blows; poverty, discrimination, corruption;like a warrior...still i feel i missed something...i dont know..i dont know what".;.Prakash took his last breath while talking to his son....wind chime was still tinkling in room..

Purvi Ashar (85)

Let me stand right here
in the wings of this vehement wind
To be blown away
To be severed this way...

To be deafened by its sound
to be belittled by its power..

A self holding a self
Against this dust
Against this force

I shall fill the violent swirl
in my eye,
Sore my soul,
Ransack my space..

Let me stand right here
in the wings of this vehement wind...

After it's death
I shall bask in the calm
The beautiful calm that remains...

Truth Dude (136)

the coleridge-bohemian

in the broken house
a stifled silence greeted him.
long stretches of blur
it's a life!

smoke up,
drink up,
live to die.

the growing sense of unease,
numbed down.

a functional dystopia
a life lived in a hurry
to get to the end.

to make another beginning
or so he thought.

the stifled silence screamed.

nothing moved.

bob said,
the answers were blowing in the wind.

nothing moved.

when you didn't ask the questions,
the answers didn't matter.

numbness
vegetative
insipid
a life to live.

and nothing moves.

day after day, day after day

we struck no breadth no motion,

as idle as a painted ship

on a painted ocean

water, water everywhere

and all the boards did shrink

water, water everywhere

nor any drop to drink

a wry smile plays.

tomorrow is another day.

Richa Gupta(111)

The wind carries more than we can see

A little bit of this and a little bit of that

And it carries what makes you and me

Telling stories of men from the times gone by

Of great heroes, loves and wars

Of dying people yet a new born's cry

It carries the many secrets of lovers

Whispered words of forbidden trysts

Gently caressing it flutters and hovers

It carries within it the wisdom of old

Passing in a rustle or in a deadly blast

It can be life's warmth or death's cold

The wind hides more than we can know

But with all this weight of the world it carries

I wonder how it ever manages to blow!!

Mandappa KC (105)

Would you let go? Would you quit your job?

Would you throw it all?

Would you give up all your money?

Just to hear the wind blow!

If I could promise that we would fly

We would sail away

Would you give up everything else you own

Just to hear the wind blow

Blue skies and misty mountain highs

Green drives and butterflies

Would you come away with me

Just to hear the wind blow

Chasing dreams, storms and blimey whims

Have it all the way you want

But you'd have to let go of your grown up ways

Just to hear the wind blow

Mickey the Monkey (120)

"Wind some cloth dipped in oil over his tail" roared the Mighty King "and set it on fire". The demon brought a piece of cloth and started to wind over the Monkeys tail. The Monkey closed his eyes and smiled. His tail started to grow. "Bring more clothes", shouted the king. Demons kept winding cloths and his tail kept growing, till all the cloth of the city was wound over his tail. Someone then lit his tail. The Monkey jumped to the top of the palace. He invoked the Wind God, his father. Soon strong wind started to blow from all directions, and the fire spread like jungle fire. The City of Gold was reduced to ash in no time.

Hummingnerd (76)

Like...

the rustling autumn leaves,
a flying kite broken from its strings,
crooked sails of broken fleets,
wandering among the waters
twisting and turning
within its own ways,
whistling, howling, rainy wind...

Took you away.

and you gladly went
leaving behind lingers of your scent,
I wish I could compete,
but, I live on the ground,
and I'm weak;
all I can do is, speak
And hope...

The wind would blow you my way, again !

Santonu (136)

When Nimish opened the window a cloudy still evening welcomed him. The fall has begun; the trees were all colored with yellow, red and green. Nimish came out from the house for a walk. Sumana was still sleeping. Nimish took a deep breath looking at her and then closed the door behind, the innocence had touched him. While walking on the streets he wondered its merely days before they are separated and smiled. Did he feel pain? He looked at the dark sky and felt the chilled droplets piercing his face. The wind started blowing as he closed his eyes only to find the face of sleeping Sumana on the bed, Nimish turned back towards home...the red maple leaves the clouds and the diminishing faith started flying with the wind. Its not going to rain today.

Dok Saab (120)

The air was still. Not a leaf moved. Sitting under the fig tree, he fidgeted with the dry twigs. Every few minutes he went to the field. Looking towards the western sky, he dropped a handful of earth. But there was no wind to blow away the dirt. Disappointed and sad, he went back to sit under the fig tree, waiting for the wind to blow. "Nikhil, come back, its getting dark", his mother shouted. He looked at the bright yellow and red kite lying on the roots of the fig tree, crisp and virgin, the spool of thread, untouched. Desperately he looked at the fig tree for any sign of wind. The air was still. Not a leaf moved.

Konfessioner Singh (120)

Have you heard clair de lune?

No, but I have felt it.

Like the wind?

He paused, surprised, but I continued…

… It has the same dip… the same rustle.

We were in love that day. That hour maybe, not that day. Our favourites were common, we wanted Rome, creeks, ever young green meadows with daisies and chestnut horses. The apple trees watched us and the sun smiled, sending warmth with wafts of early winter wind. And my cheek was red already…

But the young are never forever together. We bound across continents, sail coloured seas and sing new songs, sometimes remembering whom we have loved and what we have seen.

Yes, just like the wind indeed. Look at me.

Sarang Mahajan (119)

When I was a kid, there lived a skinny dog and her puppy behind our house. The puppy was much like me, careless and playful… until the day a dog-van left the colony caging its anxiously silent mother. With her gone, the puppy changed. It shrank daily, and it hardly ever played with me. I wished someone took it along.

Then one day came a storm, which I was told blew tin-roofs and dropped them on the children. I slept listening to the wind howling outside, thinking and later dreaming of the puppy. In the morning, when I went outside, it wasn’t there anymore.

The wind, which had outwardly seemed so terrible, had pitied it and taken it along.

The wind would blow you my way, again !

Wind can evoke such strong emotions !!

Hi Dok Saab!

What I love most about kites and the wind is how you test which side the wind is blowing by releasing a fistful of earth and seeing the direction...!

Sarang DOES choose some amazing words..:) It was tough selecting one from the many he sent..!!! :D

The konfessioners welkome Hummingnerd! Cheers!!! and what a cool first post! :)

As always,

Hi Everyone !!!

It's nice to be a part of KnK and great to be amongst you. Got held up with work as always. Thank you! Thank you!

I just try to be a writer or say pretend to write. I was reading the old topics for two continuous days, since, i visited this blog a week ago. There are so many I still have remaining.

It's amazing how many views a single word can evoke. Also the many varied styles of presenting it. Initially, I thought of just reading and enjoying myself, however, somehow the WIND blew me :D

Im not aware of structure and stuffs in prose & poetry. But I do learn. Hence, my KOMMENTS would reflect the views of a Common, however, Thinking man.

Cheers :)

Hi Simply Luna-tik !
after doing some research I found that you and our friend Hummingnerd are not two but one, a typical case of split persona ??
It would be easier for the simian brain like mine if you use same personality to klash and komment.
And before I forget, Welkome to Klash :) you write very well.

Unknown said...

Hello Santonu
No we are not pro, at least I am not. But even then we are producing some very beautiful pieces. Know why? Have you seen an orchestra? An accomplished conductor, with a small baton, can create such beautiful music from what would have been some jarring notes.
About your take, first the negative things, you exceeded the word limit, and probably there is some error in your punctuation.
But despite those, your take is good to read. Isn’t it wonderful how a gush of wind can clear the dark clouds in no time.

and im back. just sent my stuff to our belle of bells. should see my post up there soon.

really good work everybody!! Was amazed..man i could give my vote to at least three (not including myself hehehe) people who've written this klash. And the rest are yet to come.

And welcome to our little community of monkeys, mojo risers, klashers and wordsmiths [:)], HummingNerd.

I like to think of us as, the Motley Krew :)

Good to have you here. Cheers all!

Komments wait till when the entries klose.

Hi Konfessioner Singh!!
How do you find such lovely pearls from this vast ocean called Orkut?
Alas, we fail to keep them.
Your take on the word is as usual at a level higher. It’s not all about what meets our eyes. There is some higher meaning to be explained. No I never had heard so I had to google Clair de lune to find its literal meaning as well as about the poem and the band by the same name. Wind can evoke so many emotions, nostalgia is one of them. Especially the wind coming from Arabian Sea, laden with rain can make me weep, bringing back so many memories from my childhood. This story of yours seems from not a very distant past. The lines We were in love that day. That hour maybe, not that day. possibly define present day love, just like the wind, to be felt for moments and remembered for life.

The Konfessioners said...

Komrades, so good to see life!!! :D

Well, I was touched to see a little poem sent in by Richaji with her lovely post..

also found this beautiful poem by Robert L Stevenson on Wind

I saw you toss the kites on high
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies' skirts across the grass—
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push, I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all—
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower, are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

Oh Santonu, I think we're all a different sort of league aren't we..!! i love the "Motley Krew" label haha.. Nobody Klashes like the Klashers do!!! :D and how about asking your friend to join in too!!!

Free woman will be participating this week too, do kongratulate her on the birth of her nephew! I suggest we send him our virtual cute cuddly panda bear krown haha.. :)

Hummingnerd.. we're all ainvi types, don't worry... I love talking about structure though sometimes..! Don't worry, and I'm glad the wind hit you..we're richer for it!

Mickey.. he's one person yes haha!

And Dok Saab, I love the way you put it about the orchestra..we truly are a cute little bunch! And I don't know where these pearls come from either..haha.. must be the many ads I paste here and there...!! Polluting various communities!!! :)

About my own write up.. I've sent you the music! I hope you like it, I often call it lighter than air...and it is Claude Debussy's best known composition too..This piece is fiction in real life. But real in the head.. there is such a thin line between my real world and my imagination that I cross it all the while..and people who don't happen to be around sound like they are in most of these little works.. :)

And Mandi, I 100000% agree, the break even though a stagnant-whatever period has done us some good..haha and I thought you'd have a post on Dylan so I refrained... :(! But that's a song I love, but it shouldn't be the 'most famous' somehow..

And I agree.. TD has KILLED it this time.. loved it.

But I've had a wild Tuesday learning all about Hanumanji thanks to Mickey!

And Empress, Debussy is like wind chimes.. he just hangs off some place and you can't reach him, and even if you can you don't want to.. you'd rather just listen! :) Glad you liked hearing it again!!!

Richaji Namastey
even after that hectic Karva Chauth Vrat (the pics are beautiful, especially because you did those rituals in the US of A) you found time to pen such a nice poem. You excel in English as in Hindi. The concept, the structure, the content, all is perfect. I liked especially the lines..
But with all this weight of the world it carries
I wonder how it ever manages to blow!!

Unknown said...

Mickey the Monkey hi !!
Sarang had thought of wind as in moving air, you crooked monkey, and not winding cloths over the tail of your Deity. But liked your idea of using all forms of the verb (wind, winding, wound)

@ Konfessioner Singh thanks for sharing this poem by Robert L Stevenson . this is so simple yet so powerful.

Alright my KOMMENTS, My FIRST ! :D

Sarang- That was a good one. But...the truth...I hate street Dogs. Their "growing population" is directly proportional to Human beings. I once thought of making a short film based on this concept. The "DOGTRIX". Have you seen "matrix" ? Just interchange the Machines with the Dogs...lol...:D:D

But, that's not the point :) I liked the piece. I believe, you write far better than me. So, I kind of refrain from Kommenting more. All I can say now, considering the time-frame you had, it is pretty good. It was very close, in squeezing-off some pity for the puppy from a miser like me. Also, the wind surely was good :)

Konfessioner Sing- Aham...Aham...! Before I forget, what's ainvi ?

And...After hearing Claire-de-lune and reading a lot, I liked it.

P.S- I loved your last post on WIZARD.

Mustafa Quilon said...

Dok Saab- I love the way you bring out the minute characteristics of your characters. You write so REAL.

santonu- You crossed the word limit :|

"Its not going to rain today.", what does it mean ?

Does rain here mean Dying ? Do tell me :)

Hummingnerd- I think the WIND here, symbolises the EVIL society ? :p I loved it.

I also liked The Breaking Wind. Though, there are not many takers here, but I liked it :D

Mickey the Monkey- You used the word WIND thrice with different meanings. Very Nice.

Mandappa KC- I have a doubt. "Just to hear the wind blow", Does this line have something more associated with it, which I can't comprehend ?

I really would like to know,
What does it mean to hear the wind blow ?
I really would like to know

:)

Mustafa Quilon said...

Hey Missy, Completely missed it. hahahaha..:D I knew! I knew!

Sarang Mahajan said...

@ Hummingnerd

Thanks for the kind words man. And we all write just as well as everyone else here. I loved your take too, but I shall write more about that in my komment.

I have seen Matrix. But man, even though street dogs multiply like that, it ain't their fault. They are living under the shadow of humans who multiply none slow. Tell me, what efforts are taken by the government to stop their growth? I am not talking about killing them, but about the surgeries to stop their multiplication.

@ Free Woman

Many kongratulations! This Diwali is certainly a special one for your family! :-)

Hello GSV Being a pediatrician, I have experienced many a tense moments between the child’s birth and his first breath. Associating life’s events with wind was a clever idea. But the wind chime thing does not fit into the dying scene somehow.

Unknown said...

Sarang You call it pity, I say its cruel. Wind can be cruel sometimes. I can’t forget, last monsoon, it blew a full 20 x 10 ft tin hoarding over my brand new Verna, me looking helplessly from my terrace. Thank God (should we?) the car was insured.
This time your klash lacks the magic you created in the past. May be you have written this fearing the wrath of Konfessioner Singh. Where is the other Mighty Mahajan ?

Unknown said...

Truth Dude My teacher had once told me 'attempt toughest questions in the last'.
Your takes are getting tougher for me. Like your previous post on wizard, this one also went above my head. Then I saw people talking about your post and Bob Dylan, so I started googling phrases from your post. The Coleridge poem I had read, but Bob Dylan’s I had never heard. Even after reading and rereading your piece for twenty times, I am unable to comprehend all. Though few phrases I liked, viz a functional dystopia
a life lived in a hurry to get to the end.
and when you didn't ask the questions,
the answers didn't matter.
may be this is because my lack of any literary background.
Your initial posts were much simpler for me to understand.

hi
happy diwali to all here..

jyoti basera-a nice simple and descriptive take on 'wind'

free women-really nice short poem..but subject was different.

purvi ashar-i have heard this kind of poem somewhere also..but ur last para makes it different from that..i liked it..

truth dude-influenced by untraditional romantic poetry.."bohemian"..but since bob has said answers r in wind so no questions to you!!!..

richa gupta-aap dono bhashaon mein apni bhawna vyakt karne ki shamta rakhti hain..nice poem..

mandappa kc- liked it..!! though this theme can be associated with any other natural activity..dewdrops, rain,rainbow..but it fits with wind..

mickey the monkey- noun is noun and verb is verb..a human is human and a monkey is monkey...but the important thing is happy diwali...:)

hummingnerd- nice take,,u already have got appreciation..so nothing new to say..

santonu- okay okay this week,,wind was too slow..when wind comes there is no rain..

dok saab- aapke comments aapke klash se bhi behtar hote hain...haha... like always this time also ur take was nice ,,child psychology..:)

hey any body from the trio listening...this is time to give a lifetime achievment krown to doksaab..:)

konfessioner singh- this time it looks similiar to truth dude's take in some aspects...i wont say both were above my head..haha..as i could summarise something something from something something...haha ..and i liked it too.. and u bring apple trees everywhere..in every continent..haha(if i do much 'haha' then would it look natural or like shin shin's messages and mails where one 'haha' is must..haha)..happy diwali to you..

sarang mahajan- doksaab bolte hain hain ki aapka jadoo nahi chala..haha..aur aapne missy ke darr se klash mein jaldi mein bhaag liya hai..kitne spashtwaadi hain doksaab...haha..happy diwali to you..

@ Sarang

The Dogs were supposed to be in jungle with other animals right? Some crazy, macho hunter would have tried to tame one of the "WILD DOGS" and they gave in too easily and became PETS. Few of the masters abandoned them and now they multiply. The day when there won't be a single "STRAY DOG" would be a sign that India is now a DEVELOPED NATION!

And the WIND is certainly better than the lazy corporation workers not doing their Job.

G.S Virmaniji- So, he took his LAST breadth. Sad. And DOK SAAB, I liked "The Tinkling Wind Chime" ending. A lifetime in 115 words. A brave effort. And, are all those errors intentional ?
Nice post.

"Life blows like a wind,
Sometimes LEFT
Sometimes RIGHT
When you are not steady
You get caught up in its whirlwind...
lol

Poor, hahahaha :D

@ DOK SAAB. It was not WIND which was CRUEL. You are blaming the poor wind, don't you think? It was the one who erected the Hoarding. Which leads to our government not doing, what needs to be done...lol...Why Do I hate this people?

Jyoti: Wonderful imagery. Could feel a village evening approaching with a windy night. Beautifully written! A brilliant debue. I believe your style of writing will be warmly appreciated here.

Free Woman: I could not clearly understand this one, Free Woman. But I liked the second line.

GSV: A good piece in general, but I could not see how it related to the theme word. And man, you must, must take care of punctuation. Please remove the basic errors as starting letter in small, not giving a space after a full-stop or a coma. Your word count comes to 127 after adding spaces where required. You write very well, but these very basic errors stain the impression your theme creates. Do take care man.

Purvi: A very nice and artistic take. Nice visual treat. Really liked the ending line! A fine entry for you, ma’m. Hope to see you every klash! 

Truth Dude: Man, you have written something cool, I can sense it, but can’t get the theme in one go. This is something very abstract, which I know you don’t write for others but for the joy of writing, so I hope you enjoyed writing.

Richa: This is indeed a wonderful poem, the last line is very creative. But don’t know why I feel differently about this one.

Mandi: Good one again, Sir Mandi. Nice use of the theme word. You could have worked a little more on the elements, but the theme is very nice.

Mickey:Bolo Pavan Putra Hanuman ki jay! Was Bajrangbali your ancestor, brother monkey? I know he was the son of wind, but here you speak of the fire more, is it not? I think, Hunumanji’s birth could have been a better topic here. But a nice take! 

Hummingnerd: Awesome, man! What a debut! Sometimes you do find a very good theme but it isn’t portrayed perfectly, but you have controlled the theme nicely here. Not a word less, not a word more!

Santonu: You must have enjoyed visualising this one. I could feel it. A good piece!

Dok Saab: I have spent a million evenings this way. I either used to wait for the wind, or fruitlessly tire my arms fighting to get the kite up in the dull sky. But nature is hopeless. You have portrayed it well.

Konfessioner Singh: Missy, your literary-treat kind of style again. This reminded me of the song Kabhi Kabhi, even though it has nothing to do with Rome. Cool and creative touch this one – “And my cheek was red already…”

My vote: Hummingnerd!

@ Hummingnerd:

I think you make a point saying India will be truly a developed nation when there won't be stray dogs, but I feel it would be so when the dogs are well-to-do human-friends and not thought of as STRAY or PET. I can't imagine a society without them.

And dogs are supposed to be where they feel free to be, because earth is equally their property too. We are building cities and destroying the nature, which we aren't supposed to do. But we are doing it, and that is nothing as compared to what dogs did by coming out of the jungles with humans using their limited brain-power.

And I don't think some macho hunter may have brought them from the jungles. I think dogs were human-friends when we were still living in the jungles. They came where we went, from jungles to cities. We brought them with us because we needed them, for the protection they rendered and their loyalty, and also their fur which we ripped when we needed.

Santonu, Mandy, TD...Please do answer my questions.

I'll vote soon after getting the answers. :)

Mustafa Quilon said...

Thanks Sarang!

And dogs are supposed to be where they feel free to be, because earth is equally their property too.

It'll be hard to make the race of HUMAN BEINGS, which includes us, believe in this :)

You mentioned about Limited Brain-Power. I guess, i.e, what amuses human beings. Also, people who love Dogs should consider adopting few STRAY-DOGS too. But, they would do only if it was cute, handsome...etc.
Love is supposed to be UN-CONDITIONAL, right ?
So, anyone who says they LOVE dogs, should be ready to let a few of them in!!

Missy, should have a lot to say against this :p However, lets now keep this place for WIND. We'll discuss Dogs in other places :) Like Orkut.

Santonu said...

@Sarang and Shinjini (as u choose among the few) forgot to mention, the choice of word was really excellent...

@Hummingnerd
Crossing the word limit was purposeful, Dont ask why :D

Rain in that situation signifies eventuality towards which both of them were heading, so its not gonna rain that day...well it was not a good one, i know, but i just tried to visualize it

Sarang Mahajan said...

@ Hummingnerd

I think those who say they love dogs, do let a few of them in. There were around nine dogs (all named) inside my premises once. Hahaha. And Missy has about 33 of them at the moment! :D

And buddy, the iece I wrote was fictional, my parents would let in all the dogs they see if there's a storm. :D

Sarang Mahajan said...

@ Santonu

Thanks man. Choosing a word is my fevourite task, though I don't get to do it a lot of times! :D

Missy, one big bow down to you, all the keeping together, has been 'cos of you, cheers and keep it up!

Have been really busy offlate, however, with the Klash coming back into its element, will get back asap.

My vote this week goes to HUMMINGNERD! Debutante, yet a winner there mate. Really good writing.

My komments first!

1. Jyoti Basera-- A very, very warm welkome Jyoti! Though we're missing you in the 'komments'!! :)

I have always wondered about life in the tea gardens and would love to spend some years living in one of those ancient bungalows amidst all those green gardens of tea. Well captured, an excellent and differnt first attempt. Did you grow up in a tea garden? I hear you are a journalist in Delhi and a friend of Sarang's! It'd be nice if our new klashers gave us a little dekho into who they are! :) I particularly, like Dok Saab loved the line about the laburnum/amaltas.. similar memories here! Lal cha-- we call chai cha in Punjab too!! Is it overcooked hence lal?? And it is true, that the fish start jumping about or rather, nibbling on the surface of their ponds/rivers before rain..wind, not sure! :)

2. Free Woman (nayi buaji!)-- Thank you ever so much for participating! How sweet of you, Seema, to actually find the time to pen this amidst all the excitement!!! :) And Dok Saab is a super paediatrician indeed...Yes GSV, Dok Saab does deserve the Lifetime Achievement Award..!!! great suggestion!!! :)

"The wind of chance", how beautifully conceived indeed..with all the additional support, where does He figure? I get the drift indeed! :)

3. GSV-- The wind figures wonderfully well in your take this week. As in the wind pipe, the wind in our sails (of life) how we fight and conquer.. and till the very last breath which 'knocks the wind out of us'. But what I like is the wind chime, I haven't read all the posts yet..though I really, really, really wanted someone to come with something about windchimes. They say that souls dance in them too..! So there.. :)

And you're right "haha" every mail has that, unconsciously though!!!!

4. Purvi-- WOW, solid stuff yaar!!! I have a very feminist interpretation of it though. Powerful poem there, I'm delighted with our newkomers, seriously!!!! And 'the lull'--(calm) after a storm is such a difficult moment to capture.. you've done it simply and beautifully.. What I like is how this gust of wind with all it's violence and everything did not scare her.

5. Truth Dude-- You cant stick words together to make them one MAAR PITEGI! haha.. what I like most about the poem is it's title.. seriously. This'd make a great short story..think about it..?! :) Bob Dylan makes me want to give everything up and live in Greenwich Village in NYC. Seriously! Empress, you ever been there???

Your best line and my favourite line this week is definitely---

the stifled silence screamed Brilliant!

6. Richa-- Empress, what a beautiful poem, how on earth did you bring it about!?!! It's got so much soul that I'm driven to believe you took 2 weeks writing it haha.. It's beautiful is all I can say. Seriously!

7. Mandi-- I would and I do..! "Green drives and butterflies" this could be a very, very good song. I'm addicted to this Tracy Chapman song called "change" and yours is better if not as good!

If you knew that you would die today,
Saw the face of God and love,
Would you change?
Would you change?

If you knew that love can break your heart
When you're down so low you cannot fall
Would you change?
Would you change?

How bad, how good does it need to get?
How many losses? How much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around,
Makes you try to explain,
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change?
Makes you change?

If you knew that you would be alone,
Knowing right, being wrong,
Would you change?
etc etc.

Well written.. except for the blimey part, maybe I didn't 'get' that line?!

Missy Baba said...

8. Mickey-- You're my winner this was one bite of mythology I thoroughly enjoyed reading, as did I love perusing the link you so sweetly forwarded me! :) This use of 'wind' amused me greatly and sometimes that's what it takes to get a vote, very original and very nice..thanks for the read Mickey!!!

p.s. hope the diwali crackers didn't upset you and Jane much?!!

9. Hummingnerd-- Oh my Lunatik, your komments here are such good fun..I'm yet to read where the stray dogs figure though? haha...but first about your klash. I have only one problem and that is the use of 'lingers' i'd rather you use 'traces' somehow.. But the first stanza has me in a dream.. what vivid imagery! Bravo! and keep writing and kommenting, you've filled new wind into the Klash of the Konfessioners! :)

10. Santonu-- What I like about your take Santonu, is that its got that movie frame feel to it..even the concise sentences do! And how the wind is a prerequisite in such scenes haha... The only thing that distracted me from 'wind' was the fall.. :).

11. Dok Saab-- Your structure has NEVER been better than this, if it wasn't for Mickey's originality, you'd be my winner. And you captured my favourite wind moment too..the mud-kite-wind thing...so beautifully. Is this a true story? from your childhood perhaps? Loved it... see how well the addition of a fig tree works here..

12. KS-- hmmm!!! I wish, I wish, I wish! haha.

13. Sarang-- Do you want to be the winner every week or what?!!!! :X One of my favourite klashes this week definitely.. made me sad as I remember "Babe" the puppy at the Kashmir golf club.. what a beauty she was and how I wanted to bring her back with me.. God knows how she'll last the winter.. I'm glad I believe in God. This also reminded me of NM and a puppy..very long ago.

Stray dogs aren't a menace by themselves, it is in their nature to be animals. If there is anyone to blame it is us. Castrating and killing seem to be the only answers today.. how cruel.. I can't joke about Maneka Gandhi, if there's anyone who's truly done something it is her. No matter how mad everyone thinks she is, at least she's brought compassion towards animals into our bloody conversations...

Missy Baba said...

@ Hummingnerd-- Ainvi = "Just like that".

@Dok Saab-- I think we kan have a debut krown but that wouldn't be fair to all the old people?! lets see!!! :)

@ GS-- arrey Sarang is not scared of my wrath at all--ever! haha :D

And I am OBSESSED with apple trees, seriously!

@GF-- Thank you so much and we missed you yaar, but thank you for popping in and leaving a vote and message! Happy Diwali to you too

And Happy Diwali to everyone!!!!

Mickey said...

Hi all!!
Thirteen mahayoddha’s, one word!! Great klash!!
My apologies for being so late to comment. Had to leave town because of so much sound and air pollution.
Dipawali!! A time to celebrate the return of lord Rama after defeating Ravana. But why so much ruckus. Your ancestors, in the times of Rama, celebrated his victorious return by decorating Ayodhya with earthen lamps, eating sweets and singing and dancing. From where did these explosives come?
I returned from the forests of Koano last night. The air in town still smells of sulpher, and sporadic bombarding is still going on. It’s back to business from today.
Happy Dipawali folks!!

Mickey said...

Thanks Konfessioner Singh, for your vote. I am happy you liked my mythological theme, which one of the two did you like more.
Sarang sir says, my take is more about fire, and that I should have written about the birth of hanuman instead. Sir ! my take starts with a wind and ends with another, with so many winding in between. Fire is just incidental.
GS says the word for klash was a noun (the wind) and not a verb ( to wind). Well GS, the word could have different meaning to different people, from breaking the wind, to winding a thread. If you want every one to use only one meaning, the meaning should also be specified.

Mickey said...

Komments Time !! (though I am not very late, there are still so many to komment yet)
Sarang Mahajan… So much has been talked about the poor puppy that I don’t have to add to it. Wind storms are really frightening for us animals (as well as so many of your poorer cousins) our humble nests, (and their shanty huts) getting uprooted with every windy storm.
Terrible! You call it pity.
But a good klash, indeed!
Konfessioner Singh… wind has always been associated with music. Blowing through the trees, it produces the prettiest song I have ever heard. I could not understand your take till I listened to clair de lune. Your cheeks were red, was that winter wind to be blamed, I doubt.
Dok Saab… Kite flying on a jamghat afternoon, a popular tradition of Lucknow I believe, Dok Saab. Lovely. But why did you choose a fig tree. And why Nikhil :)
Santonu… How even a slight breeze can change the weather. Nice use of word to describe changing interpersonal relations. But try to remove 16 words, and see if its still meaningful.

I have already kommented upon all the klashes, in easy installments !!
very difficult to vote this time (wish we face similar situation in our loksabha elections)
Well My vote this time goes to Jyoti Basera

Hummingnerd … You are not a nerd by any means, but regarding the lunar affliction, I am not sure.
What goes up must come down, Newtons Law of gravity. Wish the same applied in your case too. alas , what times takes away never come back. Nice klash !!

Mickey said...

Mandappa KC…Hi Sir, very nice poem. Me for one, have given up my once-in-a-life-time chance to become a human, Just to hear the wind blow!
Richa Gupta… Such vivid portrayal of wind, and such a nice poem. Language is not a barrier for you, when the feelings come from the heart.
Truth Dude…Dude, I am too small to komprehend and komment such komplex poem, but since the veterans are appreciating, it must be very good :)

Mickey said...

Purvi Ashar…Very beautiful poem, Ms Ashar, but I think no one has seen after death, so why not enjoy all its fury in the present form.
GSV… another good one here. windpipe somehow reminds me of slitting, I dont know how this association is fixed in my mind. and use of wind chimes was a brilliant idea :)

Mickey said...

Free Woman…NIce and cute lil poem :)
true, just like chance, you never know which way it will blow, the unpredictable wind.
Jyoti Basera… Dogs, cows, fishes , hen , everyone rushing to there safe Basera, But Jyoti Maam, you forgot us humble monkeys, we can only cling tighter to the branches, and pray that the tree doesn't get swept away :)

richa said...

like a true Empress I shall now make my grand entrance and of course to effect that one has to be late...:)
so hoping we all had a fun Deepawali and were a little environment conscience....here are my komments.

Jyoti: a big warm welcome. a very vivid imagery and nice use of word. but it was a too many words and images in the opening part and it kind of felt cluttered. but like Princess I now want to live in a tea plantation now!!

Free Woman: great effort in such busy time!! it was a nice read but felt that wind was not the theme here.

GSV: a brilliant take on the word and so many different uses of the same word!! but it somehow lacked soul...dont know how to express it but the sentences did not flow together.

Purvi: Welcome and what an entry man...Purvi you rock!!! reminds me of a song..by Mudgal..ab na akeli hoon mein, khud ki saheli hoon mein...I, like Princess, shall spin a feminist take on it. wonderful esp in just 85 words!!

TD: hmmm pretty complex and had its moments of sheer brilliance and then not so much. good usage of oxymorons loved the line "a life lived in hurry.." so true!! and so sad..

Missy Baba said...

whoops, sorry Dok Saab! I'm upset that Jyoti hasn't kommented yet!!! :( Purvi is busy with exams..will remind her though!!! And no, GF's vote kant kount! because she didn't participate...:) but mighty sweet of her to have kommented!

Lunatik.. thank you!!!!!!! :D

Empress... FINALLY!!!!!!!haha

Jyoti Basera
A North Eastern scene…and descriptive, you’ve got a great voice! I loved the imagery you’ve used. Welcome to the Klash with a bang!!

Free Woman
I’m a believer of destiny and your will existing together. And yes the winds of chance can wreck havoc or elevate your life. :) Plus hey, it’s a great poem!!

GSV
I like the flashback. Really nice reminiscing and how the wind plays an important but a side role in the narrative. Nice…really nice!!

Purvi Ashar
Vehement wind, a strong sense of headstrongness … this appeals to me. To standf against is to stand!! This is the poem of a warrior, he who knows that every time he/she goes to battle, he will play the expected role and live to fight another day. This is wisdom!

Me
“the coleridge-bohemian” as the name suggests is a reflective poem. One that deals with the concept of hedonism and the long slow burn of the romantic.

This is the story of a man who literally lives on the edge. He lives – but not really. ‘a functional dystopia’ where the world is a terror. Where he would rather life remained in a stasis – where nothing moves. Such is his frame of mind – imagine a lover who waits and waits for the other – the world moves but not the lover…nothing moves.

There are no answers to waiting…there are no questions to be asked. All that you do is wait. This is life.

Coleridge suggests this as eternal horror – in his poem – the rime of the ancient mariner – a poem that is an epic saga of a struggle and the horror of eternal solitary punishment. And the way out of such a situation.

To say that one cannot understand the poem…is understandable. Because the way I see it, this poem needs an emotional response. It is not meant to bring an intellectual one. Think about that!

HummingNerd – the lines in italics are from the poem mentioned above, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge – one of the greatest (read mad) poets ever – on par with the man himself – P.B. Shelley!

Doc – To get what the poem is saying not by reading it…but by living it. You know… like you put yourself in someone’s shoes!

Shin – putting words together do not make them one, but it makes them a whole lot more interesting, don’t you think?

Mickey – You underrate yourself monkeyman! I think you’d be the most likely to really understand this one…not because you are an intellectual, but you can see beyond literal meaning and into experience!

Sarang – Any writer who writes for himself shouldn’t. heh! Anyway…it’s cool if you don’t get my poems in one go – but hey, I thank you for your comment. Refreshingly honest :)
Richa Gupta
This is nice…I like your style, I like the way you make allegories. Beautiful!

Mandappa KC
Hey Mandy (hope you don’t mind me calling you that!), if you were a beautiful girl and I was single, I’d drop everything to hear the wind blow with you :). But seriously, good effort dude. But I expected a better finish to your poem. And I don’t mean the end finish but a well crafted finish…you know what I mean.

Mickey the Monkey
You rock monkeyman!!

Hummingnerd
Like…you rock too dude! Yea dude…that is one of the sweetest poems I’ve read!

Santonu
Nice dude! I get what you saying…but really, in the word limit…the brooding tone which you had, could’ve been explored further. But I love the effect it has …the solemness of it all. Cool!!

Dok Saab
This is dark writing. This is a sense of something…which is about to happen but doesn’t. This is a pause. This demands a certain continuation. This is…to be completed.

Konfessioner Singh
You’ve got me floating, round and round. You’ve got me floating…
You sure have!

Sarang Mahajan
This is a nice take…a tragedy averted..to become a story of hope. I loved the way you’ve treated it…to hope.

Haven’t decided on a vote yet people. Will soon. :) Difficult decision.

my vote to you sarang.

truthdude said...

oh and coleridge's piece juxtaposes the story. cuz Coleridge talked of non-movement as eternal horror, whereas this guy lives on the edge and is waiting. not eternally perhaps but for movement, for his love. and the answers are blowing in the wind,, except there is no wind and the questions just don't matter...

or something like that :)

richa said...

sorry people for the disconnect..was literally disconnected...amrica mein bhi aisa hota hai..aur bahut baar hota hai:)
hmm so my kommnets continue

Richa: i am glad many of you have liked the poem esp the last lines of which i was least sure. The poem was written in a hurry..i had about 20 min in between a boring customs meeting at work and the muse was not there...later there were many things I would have changed...

Sir Mandy: May I call u that since everyone in the gang does??
Repeating Truth Dude..if I was single i would have followed you to the end just to hear the wind blow and rustle and whisper all its secrets to me....but single or not I could still follow the wind cant I :) haha!! a wonderful visual nostalgic piece. but then you have shown yourself to be quite the writer...

Mickey: it was definitely a novel use of the word but somehow it failed to touch me.

Hummingnerd: it took me 4-5 reads to get your name right hahaha!! i thought it was the BIRD!! :)
a wonderful write up..loved the first stanza but somehow the second part seemed a little defeatist...if you want something bad enough u gotta fight...but thats the philosophy behind the piece..the writing itself is flawless!!

Santonu: generally its poems that go above my head but honestly this prose did too...i mean coming from you it was a let down. Why did the innocence touch him? why are they still sleeping together if they separating in a few days? I gather its a separation of ways for good..

Doc Saab: aap to chaa gaye ustaad...what a wonderful capturing of a young boy's wistful wish to fly his kite and for the wind...but in real life the little boy would just have dragged his kite behind him..running all over in an attempt to raise his kite..right??!!

Princess: how true it is that the young are not together forever but those who want to be..bad enuf manage it..hahaha!! why was your cheek red? from the wind..or...?? ;)
did not get the lines "we were in love that day...that hour maybe bit not that day" why the negation?

Sarang: that was soooo sad...i remembered my childhood where in I would drag in any stray puppy i could find only to have them taken away while i slept...my dad is not at all an animal person :(
your writing was so simple and yet it evoked the maximum emotion.

MY VOTE....tadaadaaaa

hummingnerd, Doc Saab and Mandy..you made my decision very very difficult!!

My Vote goes to Sarang Mahajan

hmm I wonder why my writing in both Hindi and English is cause for such surprise!! I mean I love the compliments haha but it makes me wonder ..is our generation and the next not writing in Hindi much?? being away from the center of things we tend to be in a time wrap..thinking India would be exactly as we had left it..so things surprise, amaze, exhilarate and sometimes dismay those who are away...so fill me in..please

my sincerest apologies. i have been away, to go listen to the wind blow in the hills i call home.

i noticed some questions... i want to reply. but i hope it doesnt water down my writing.

well the wind blow means a lot of things to a lot of people. for me it means freedom. when ure spending ure life with a 9 to 5, or in lifes busy race, there's a hradly time to hear the wind blow. its used similar to , stopping to smell the flowers... and thats what i meant... would u drop everything, jus to be doing nothing else and listenin to the wind blow. nostalgic, quiet, quaint, artistic, dreamer, un corporate, away from mundane etc... all somewhere in the territory... honestly, i dint know if anyone would like this... i am humbled....

i will komment, post meeting today or tmrw, if thats k...the quality of klashes i must say, ROXXX, ROCKS!!

@newcomer jyoti. welcome firstly..secondly , im guessin ure from teh plantations so i'll say same pinch? which part of the country??

My vote goes to hummingnerd. Loved what he wrote.

Jyoti

malted socktail said...

here goes...sorry for delay

Jyoti: i really relate to this and im guessin most of us indians do. more bcuz i grew up in the hills. it seems more like the starting of the monsoons though, rather than the wind. but welcome here.

Free Woman: simple and nice. deep too

GSV: ure almost there. at times u lose a bit of my vote on ure craft, and since we are writing here im going to hold u to it.

purvi: u capture the beauty of the wind. brilliant. ure ending was really nice too

td: i think im in love with this since i already mentioned, but im gonna consider the word limit to make this more interesting. but uve got a fan in me.

richa ji: "But with all this weight of the world it carriesI wonder how it ever manages to blow!!" simply superb this line.

monkey: ure a quick thinker. guessin u think with every leap from every branch. tho i wouldnt say it tugs a chord

hummingnerd: superb. really superb. what are u referring to ? but none the less, superb !!

santano: nice story. and i do relat to this too. hehe. nice. couldve been better i think, or maybe its just that the kompetition did do better this time.

dok saab: professional. good imagery and a nice write and read!

singh ji: pretty pictures u indeed always paint. how much of wind in the essence, how much of the prety picture was to do with wind, ill ponder over.

sarang: really nice as always sir. ure last line did the trick. i wondered whether it would be sad or happy. and u married both. superb last line. a pat on the back ull get..

a tough one for the crown:

well, im gonna go with truth dude for a brilliant effort tho hummingnerd, u r oh so close.
