Candle

Candle

  • a long, usually slender piece of tallow or wax with an embedded wick that is burned to give light.
  • something resembling a candle in appearance or use.
  • to examine (eggs) for freshness, fertility, etc., by holding them up to a bright light.

Mickey the Monkey (120)

Last Christmas, we decided to visit Jane's mother.

Whole day, we jumped across trees reaching my mother-in-law's home by evening.

The butler ushered us into that huge mansion.

Jane and kids went up to meet her mother.

I waited in the lavishly decorated hall.

There were expensive paintings, and sculptures all around.

Then I saw, on a side table, a basket full of fruits.

Apples, oranges, grapes and bananas, all so fresh.

I couldn't resist, hungry that I was, picked up one ripe yellow banana.

The moment I was to bite the fleshy fruit, my mother-in-law exclaimed,

"What are you doing monkey, that's not banana, that's a candle".

"Decorative candles, I know" I smiled foolishly "I was just smelling them".

Nandini Sen (111)

Holding her candle high, little Payal walked silently with a hundred others. She didn’t know anything about silent candlelight processions against injustice. She only knew that her Jessica aunt was murdered and justice had not been done. The lit candle was her weapon. She hoped its blazing flame would spread light in the dark corners of the authority’s minds.

Payal remembered her mother had said that a candle depicts true love. The matchstick burns itself to light the candle, and the candle melts away in its memory, while holding up a blazing light. Payal hoped that her melting candle and its blazing light showed her love & concern for Jessica aunty.

Dok Saab (119)

I was fixing small white candles all over the walls, railings and windows since afternoon. My five-year-old brother Chhotu was very excited and running to bring the packets of new candles.
"Manda, when will you light them"
"After Mummy does the pooja, Chhotu, when it's dark."
"But Manda, how many matchboxes will you need to light all those thousand candles we have fixed"
"Chhotu, you need just one small spark to ignite the whole world"
He couldn't understand this.
After the pooja, I went to the terrace with Chhotu. I lighted a big candle with a single match, and lit all the small candles one by one.
Chhotu was looking in disbelief at our home, the brightest in town.

Is it her luminance which eliminates the darkness of whole world fascinates me ?

Is it her color or shape which attracts the buyers with I am bewitched ?

Is it her tears which she sheds and no one hears allures me ?

Is it her incense which fills ambience spreads the fragrance of love within me ?

Is it her sizzling lips which sparkle vivid colors for I have been made to kiss and die ?

I don't remember how many times I have been born to meet same fate.

I have no regret for my short life, just wished to know...

why I die everytime for a piece of Candle...?

CANDLE

I am on fire, I am burning bright

I am haloed by the sweet decay of light

I am breathing memory, I am laying stone

I am poor's light, and I am on my own

I am blinking in the twilight even when I needn't be

I am yellow, I am blue and together we shall be

I am spent five times in sorrow, in joy even more

I am bruised and lie broken on Mother Mary's shore

I am the light between two lovers aloof

I am lasting fading glow, I am the final proof

I am wasted with the ticking clock with many unsaid words...

I am the candle flickering in your night, just waiting to be heard.

Sarang Mahajan(116)

A candle burns in the broken hut on hill;

flickers as the wind blows

Eerie silhouettes dance at the window,

As a plant in a round pot bows

‘The devil wakes again! See, his fingers,’

They whisper in the town down the hill

The shadow of the plant, squirms and wriggles,

filling their hearts with chill.

While the candle burns and the people shiver,

A boy secretly descends from the hut

With a crafty smile, he pockets a matchbox

While people in their houses are shut

‘Candle fights darkness, tells the whole world,’

He says breaking into a stable

‘It also helps devil release the cattle from the butcher,’

He says as goats escape with babble

Dr. Sweta Singh aka Coffeeismypoison(142)

should i light,this candle tonight?
Candle light,
burning bright...
should I light,
its wick tonight...
will you come,
share with me...
some food,some wine,
some love some time?

Stick of wax,
though it maybe...
like us,its has,
a destiny...

Candle light,
shines just right.
Must i decide,
its fate tonight?
should it commence,
its long descent...?
what shall it see?
A glorious date...
or just another woman,
and her fruitless wait?

Candle light,
prays it might,
witness scenes of sweet passion...
the making of perfection...
in the space of this night.
Not words of accusation
anger so destructible...
blotting all hope
of peace and salvation!

Candle light
burning bright
cast your might,
upon us tonight.
and as you melt,
so fearlessly...
I'll tell them all,to learn from thee.
A tale of how sometimes...
one must die to see,
fulfillment of
one's destiny.

Genuine Fake(120)

I stepped out on the platform to see him waiting for me. Those weary eyes, shone with the light of a thousand candles. He kept walking, toward the countryscape, silent and in his own, with me in tow. Sixteen years earlier, I had left him, in pursuit of my dreams. He bid me adieu with his endearing smile, which haunted my conscience every night since then. The desire to hug him and tell him was overwhelming today. Fulfillment of the desire, however, was overlooked by the falsehood of self-esteem. Quiet discussions on work and life otherwise, followed that night over dinner. Sleep followed.

He however slept on forever.

“The vow that binds too strictly snaps itself”.

I miss you. Pa.

Hummingnerd (120)

The candle flares, then gutters, swallows flame...

and I'm lost in inevitable metaphors, writing for fame;

I am attempting to use my words

to illustrate the flame and its significance,

the shadows under the candle light…

If that to you makes any sense.

We walk among ghosts,

swamped in lies of secret seas,

encircled by fears and hypocrisies;

For days, months, how many years…

this darkness' clung to us…soul deep.

Still they say -

It's better to light one small candle

than to curse the darkness for the broken fleet.

The wick is too short now,

Our candle is flickering somehow;

Before, the humbled husk separates from the seed,

I think its time…

A new candle is all we need.

Butter-lamp bardo
when does it end?

I have slipped into black, green, blue rivers
With waves of red.
Cradled islands; balanced…
balanced, on that twang
of a faraway invisible veena…

And the subtle shiver of a swan song
has crawled,
crawled with me
while
I have whistled along paths up mountains
only to be defeated
by winds of a different kind.

Unfriendly is this growth--
panch koshas expand
only to expend.

My wings aren’t wax
no, not wax.
The wicker of my body
does not yet burn.

But
She Is.
So I ask-
Dhaaran-e-dhaara kad?

Butter lamp bardo
When does it start?
Is my candle yet unlit?

Or is my childhood spent
...and
me?

Wow...its true - Klash is indeed looking very colourful & festive. Shinjin - kudos to you.

The book by the candle in the pic is the Bible...What a coincidence with the x'mas season on!
It is Luke 13 and the excerpt on the first page says..

"18: He said therefore, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? 19: It is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches."

These r the 18th n the 19th verses from the new testament...there was a time when I knew the Bible verbatim..have forgot most of it..but still remember Luke and Matthew! Cheers all ov u and a Merry Christmas to all

bardo, panch koshas, Dhaaran-e-dhaara kad

Bardo, I guess is light up in awadhi,
panch koshas is a parikrama ? ,
but the third one i cant guess.
or are these some kashmiri terms

Missy Baba said...

Dok Saab--

Bardo-- if looked up on wikipedia, is an intermediate state, between this life and the next. It is a Tibetan term I think and is Buddhist in origin...a Bhutanese friend of mine Sonam, who is also a poetess wrote about it once. I have used it here in place of rebirth-rejuvenation-reinvention and that sort of thing...

Butter lamps are usually offered at these Buddhist altars.

Pancha Koshas-- From yog. The five realms of our being, in expanding your pancha koshas you expend/fizzle out a large part of yourself... meaning that the pursuit of depth and seriousness can often leave you tired..

Dhaaran-e-dhaara kad-- now that's a personal phrase.. This is a question to Goddess Saraswati, asking her when one will get the flow..or dhaara.

This poem is in praise of Saraswati too.. "She is".

I hope this helps!

Missy Baba said...

this is something i wrote to explain the origin of my poem..maybe--

And so you find yourself, somewhere in between. That is my butter lamp bardo, I hate reinvention, rejuvenation…rebirth…so I’m in bardo. Butter lamps mean much. For one, Sonam brought them to my subconscious and I wont be at peace till I meet her in Bhutan and see for myself what one looks like, how it feels to hold one… is it hard red earth? Does the wick crackle sometimes? And does it smell warm..? does the butter stay on your fingers…do you think of those you lost? Do your cheeks become red and do your eyes feel salty..? Do you see grey smoke and then see nothing? Is it personal…

Missy Baba said...

Hey Sweta (I find adding a Dr. puts distance between two people?! so I'll stick to Sweta!!) warm people are always more than warmly welkome!! ;-)

and I know, Dok Saab keeps the klash tiking big time..sometimes I think we run Knk because Dok Saab, Santonu, Mandi, Richa, TD and Chaos stuck by us!!! :)

The best way to hone your writing skills is to stick to the kount.. to be able to express it in 120 or 100 or 50 takes some serious wit and patience.. that's why we klash!! :) haha..and konstructive kriticism always always helps..don't worry .. I'll make sure your next post is within 120..in fact I'll make what you've written just now into 120 words and mail it to you... it's only by reading and thinking that our writing truly improves..and yours will!! :) (because you want it to!)

Hi fellow klashers.

It's feels good to have written something in this klash. To be fair, I wouldn't have - had it not been for Shinjini who threatened to throw me out of this if I didnt write this time.

And to be fair again, i deserved it...knowing that I hadn't participated in the last two klashes.

Work keeps me busy as hell, plus more than work, I am busy prepping for my marriage. Yea..so it is insane.

But really, kudos to all of you. you are fine writers and I am lucky to be counted amongst you as a klasher. Cheers!

And the Klashes are just "wow". It seems criminal to komment on them...I mean all of them are so good, that probably I'll just write Awesome against each entry.....its really very challenging to komment & select a winner.
Let me try (but sorry people if I seem word challenged while kommenting)

Hi All
Merry Christmas !!!
Every time a new word is thrown upon me, I feel dumbstruck. What will any one write on this?, but Great people here, they can write on any word.
@ Kaveesh Very nice pic, Kaveesh Bhai, even I have a Bible in my bookshelf, but never read it :(. I think some day I will, from begining till end.
@ Konfessioner Singh Hey thats not fair, you use Bardo which itself can not be explained in 120 words. Along with panch koshas & Dhaaran-e-dhaara kad your word count will exceed our limits so many times.
Yeh hum bacchoon ke saath nahi chalega, aap kuch aasaan aasaan likhiye
@ Nandini getting tied up How appropriate !. I have full sympathies with Truth Dude, and you are congratulating the poor chap.
@ coffeeismypoison Hi Sweta, welkome to Klash. where were you when we were klashing on Coffee, you seem to be addicted to the deadly concoction. You write well, Konfessioner Singh kee Shaagird ban jao, poetry apne aap aa jayegee

Ahem...my Komments & Vote

Mickey - Humourous (thats actually an understatement. Simply written -funny. Monkey tricks at its best.

Dok Saab - "You just need a small spark to ignite the whole world" - deep meaning. Nice, simple narrative style. Really liked piece.

TruthDude - 3 well crefted lines...somehow it got me to hum "We didn't start the fire, it was always burning...."

GSV - Very well thought out piece. Is it the match stick's ode to the candle?

Kaveesh - Great, grat take on the word. Each line is so, so well put.

Sarang - Aha, the candle put to good use. The "devil" helps the poor beasts escape. Loved your different thought process.

Sweta - Candle with it many avtaars. Well written. I liked your last lines "A tale of how sometimes one must die to see, fulfillment of one's destiny". Truly amazing what all a candle can teach us.

Genuine Fake - Very nice piece. But somehow felt that the theme (candle) got lost somewhere. Your line "eyes shone with a light of 1000 candles"...maybe you could've elaborated more on that.

Hummingnerd - Goodness - great philosphy in this writing."Better to light 1 candle, than curse darkness...", "Our candle is flickering somehow..."...and the best "A new candle is all we need"...very, very well put.

Anonymous - Kind of nice. Potrayed it differently....but maybe you could've elaborated. It somehow left you wanting more..probably a little too short.

Konfessioner Singh - ThankGod you elaborated earlier on your piece.Otherwise my common thinking powers might not have grasped its true meaning (not sure tho' that it atill has)...Its awesome, and filled with higher level thinking (philosophy koot koot ke bhara hua hai). Really, really grand. "Is my candle yet unlit...." a poem which makes you think, think & think.

Hummingnerd, GSV, Kavish.....I really dont know whom I'll vote for out of these three.
And Konfessioner Singh - I am NOT voting for you, because clearly yours is not in the same league as all the others. Its way, way above. Its unfair to compare yours with all of ours.

Ohh OK - my vote to Hummingnerd.
(I would've loved to split my vote between Humming, GSV & Kavish...but since thats not allowed, I just chose one out of the equal 3)

@K.singh : ur rite, calling someone dr does put a distance twixt
them, which is why i rarely use my given title.im not writing as a

no worries, just call me sweta.i wanted to vote for u,except...well,i
cudn't unerstand part of ur piece...till u explained.u can tell im a
new comer huh?but like i said b4,someday,id like to be up in ur
league,writing wise :o)
@nandini : thank u,4 ur welcome and komments...c,v can learn form
almost anything/anyone.living or not...wat i wanted to portray was the
fact that a candle sees/can see whatever its light falls
upon, similarly,if u too want to see more closely around u,come into
the light, out of the ignorance,prejudice...also,the fate of the
candle,in the poem,was in my[the lighter's] hand,n i dint want it
v.limited time to go waste...wanted it to see good
things.analogy-my/in general,parents,however wise they maybe,just want
their kids to see the good things in life, they try shielding them from
pain.similar.
@mickey : thank u for ur welcome... :o) i AM addicted to the infamous
brew,5 cups a day...much to the woe of my mum.also,i must confess my
ignorance,i dont know the meaning of "shagird".pls explain...!
my vote : dok saab
reason : a small spark can indeed ignite the whole world.its just a
pity not many r brave enuf to BE that small spark.

My Komments and vote...!

Mickey, the Monkey - hahaha..I love reading your takes. Why does your mother-in-law call you monkey? Do monkeys call monkeys, monkey? Also, you could have made the mansion into the oldest banyan tree in the forest or something relative. Just an idea ;) And, "I was just smelling them".....hahahahaha :D

Nandini sen - The matchstick burns itself to light the candle, and the candle melts away in its memory. Wow. Great analogy ^ , ^

Dok Saab - Lucid, though, I couldn't understand the last line. Why in disbelief? One small spark! I wonder from where we are gonna get that :)

Truth Dude - Kongrats on getting tied-up..:p "the candle's desire", is this one of your experiments..? :P I believe the candle symbolizes someone here or may be I'm thinking too much :)

GSV - Wonderful thought..your komment helped too..great depiction :)

Kavish Sinha - Perfect. This should be proposed as one of the poems in primary-school syllabus :)

Sarang Mahajan - This reminds me of "The night of the Scorpion" by Nissim Ezekiel. Very nicely structured :)

Dr. Sweta Singh aka Coffeeismypoison - Welkome to K'n'k. Nice first Klash. Few lines were just wonderful. Hope to see you klashing regularly :)

Genuine Fake - Depressing. Nice one. However, lacked the theme... :)

Hummingnerd - I managed to write my first 120 :)

Anonymous - C A N D L E
Wonderful thought there. I loved it :)

Konfessioner Singh - wow..I'm still trying to get it..hahahaha...kidding. Your explanation did a lot of good and why is the me small? :p :)

Now..the Vote..It's been a wonderful Klash. Beautiful word to write on. I think, Candles are used very less these days..something on the lines of "a candle complaining" would have been great too.

Kavish, GSV, Nandini, Sarang, Dok Saab, K.S, Mickey and I must admit everyone was great.

My Vote goes to Kavish.

GSV and Nandini come close second.

Mustafa Quilon said...

@ Mickey-- hahaha, arrey I didn't cross the word limit!!! That poem had been bubbling inside for over a year at least!! :) and even I want to know what "shagird" means.. does this mean you're a Lucknavi monkey too!?!!! Btw No sign of Willy this week?!!

@Nandini, you're making me blush many blushes!!! :) The poem is a komplicated little slimeball only because as NM says, I love being komplicated for no rhyme or reason haha.. fetish hai! ;) But as long as you liked it and maybe learnt a couple of things like bardo/panch koshas..et al, it's nice! And no yaar, i'm in the league below you guys because I just CANNOT write simple and feel good stuff! :)

@GS-- Sab aapke liye! ;)

@Sweta-- Vadiya! haha.. arrey league nu maro goli, klash toh ash karne ke liye hai... I'll pakka help you with the word limits though..don't worry and Kaveesh is right, but I think Priyanka beat him to the Longest Klash Debut haha.

@Kaveesh-- Modesty will not kill you!!! and I'm mad at Lunatic for voting for you..you're too good..:) haha..and you're the one who brought the Christmas Spirit to Knk! :) Your "gizmo" hahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahhaaa!

@Lunatic-- CMOS?!!! and haha glad the explanations helped! It's actually this one painting of Saraswati that Kaveesh sent me which brought this one forth.. :)

And now you've scared me 4 hours!!!

Santonu said...

Mickey I have been an admirer of your writing, because of your innovative, but I guess this time u've been finally off track...

Nandini Klash has always been allergicit towards addressing real world issue, nice to see that you have used a real life story in your take.

Dok saab another strength of candle, nice take Dr. Singh :)few very nice lines.but this statement "Chhotu, you need just one small spark to ignite the whole world", was bit heavy on this context

Truth Dude Was tempted to give u my vote :) BTW congratulations, when is this event? are we invited? :)jus kiddin, wish u a extremely happy married life

GSV Romance and candle are inseperable entity, your poetry has broyght that out nicely

Kavish The choice of word was really wonderful, and this time the wrie ups are truly nice, including yours. not softly like GSv has done, u really glorified candle in a different light, but i think this line was not required...
"i am bruised and lie broken on Mother Mary's shore"

Sarang The best thing i like abut this piece was the visualization, just awesome and also the incorporation of the story into it.

Sweta Sorry couldnt pick the whole pseudonym. This time my vote wont count as well as your poem. Beautiful rhyme, u couldv'e well become another debut klash winner this time if you had it below 120. Hope u'll keep writing here

Genuine Fake Very touchy piece, well crafted. but the theme is lost inside

Hummingnerd u were supposed to be an ameture right? :) Nicely written, liked this line "swamped in lies of secret seas"..

Shin What i should say, better i'll refrain from commenting on the konfessioners, Beautiful shinjini. I liked the second stanza a lot.

I had to choose between Shinjini and Sarang and thts a tough call and its good that i wont have to vote.

@Shinjini I think klash has always been an excellent idea. They way selflessly you guys take out time, and klashers like doc saab, inspite being in serius business bring out such entertaining pieces, is really praiseworthy...

Candle, Nice word, and such lovely interpretations. I have always associated Candles with a romantic candle light dinner and expected someone to write about that, I tried but failed.
@Sweta Thanks for the vote, but there are better takes, and I feel you have voted more out of respect for your senior. Sweta, I think you should forget here that I am a Doctor senior to you, or do you want me to remove the Dok from my name :)
(Sweta is a MBBS from KMC, Manipal, and is preparing for the PG Ent. Exams)
@Hummningnerd I think disbelief was not the korrect word I wanted there, Awe or Amazement would have been better.
@ Santonu Man Da was fifteen yrs senior to Chhotu and reading lots of philosophy at that time :). I hope this justifies his heavy remarks which probably Chhotu could not understand.

Now my komments :)
1. Mickey the Monkey -- Did your mom-in-law give you some Christmas cakes to eat after this, Monkey!. As usual, your take is just a piece of comic relief between some real serious thoughts.

2. Nandini Sen –Good word, good take too, Ms Sen, Candle as a tool of protest. Wonder how and when a simple, innocent candle became a weapon against injustice.

3. Truth Dude—Kongrats Dude, Our best wishes for your married life. We would miss your takes. And nine very effective words on candle, liked it.

4. GSV—That was a purely urdu concept, GSV, Parwanaa(Moth) dying over the Shamma(Candle) again and again. Lovely Shayari.

5. Kavish Sinha –Lovely poem Kavish, all that a candle signifies so nicely put. And lovely excerpts from the bible. Many of my patients have gifted me, but none could induce me to read, as this small piece has made me to.

6. Sarang Mahajan—What imagery!!, Sarang . The shadows produced in a candle light are the sharpest. We as children used to make shadow puppets with our hands as soon as power failed and candles were lit. Alas, now we don’t have candles in our homes, the inverter never fails.

7. Dr. Sweta Singh – Welkome Sweta!! So nice to see you here. I am sure you will love this place kalled Klash. Lovely poem, Sweta. And you said you can’t write poetry. Just a bit of editing and you could have been my winner.

8. Genuine Fake—Very emotional write-up, GF. Those weary eyes, shone with the light of a thousand candles. Only those can feel this who have lost a near one. You remind me of my Dad. I had seen that gleam in his eyes, when he visited my first clinic. I never saw him again, he went back home and passed away. Lights of even a thousand candles could not match that gleam in his eyes.

9. Hummingnerd –Beautiful Poem, Hummingnerd. A new candle is all we need, I wish life would have been as simple as getting a new candle every time.

10. Anonymous—The word’s not there, and it is, depends upon the way you look at it. Nice concept.

11. Konfessioner Singh—Had you not explained you klash, I wouldn’t have understood it. Bar do in awadhi means ‘burn it’ so I was getting confused. Your writings are always metaphorical , way above our level of thinking. Your candle is not unlit, its glow we all can see.

My Vote
Sweta would have been my vote, but for the excess words,
GF brought tears in my eyes,
Konfessioner Singh doesn’t need the votes, she is taking part just to encourage us,
Mickey doesn’t even know what a candle is,
Kaveesh, Hummingnerd, Nandini, Sarang did a good job, but
Looking at the candle from a different perspective,(that of a Parwana)
GSV gets my vote.

Mickey said...

No consensus so far, may be I can add to the konfusion with my vote.
But first my komments--
Nandini Candle Power !!
Dok Saab The theme of your take was matches and not Candles!!
TD Short but brightest candle :) (pS Kongrats !!)
GSV Even I was atrracted to a shamma and got my hands burnt.
Kavish Bhai You forgot the decorative ones which deceived me :)
Sarang the candles light allays fear what its shadows create, what an irony
Sweta Lovely debut, how about a cup of coffee with me, Dok !!
GF Very touchy, but Candle is not lit !!
Hummingnerd Good Klash
Kon Singh Now I understand your prayer to Saraswati, Brilliant.

My Vote---
Kon Singh

Now for my komments...N this time I take charge of increasing the komment kount..!! ;)
(since GSV bhai hasn't showed up yet!)

Kaveesh said...

Mickey: Loved how u portrayed the feeling when ur wife n kids go up or away to meet ur in-laws and u are deserted in a family of ur own! Its indeed a typical feeling!
Decorative Candles...Yes indeed!I had a candle in the shape of a fish which my dad quietly embellished the aquarium with...N it did luk beautiful!
Nice..chirpy...Close to life take!
How I wish they were real fruits!

Kaveesh said...

Nandini:We did the same for Khushboo rastogi who was run over by a truck in Lucknow and for Meher Bhargava...But all to gain media coverage...haha!
Its indeed wonderful how a candle carries along with it ur agitation for an issue...But as soon as it melts down...the wax is swept away like the issues are! The candles keep dying..Injustice stays alive!
Nice concept!"Dark corners of the authority’s minds" is a gr8 analogy!

Kaveesh said...

Dok Saab: I cannot describe in words the wait for burning Diyas and lighting candles b4 n during the Diwali pooja...Its such an excitement bound procedure though we know that the candles will be off soon!
Haha..The matchstick indeed was the spark but the bigger candle was the might!Nice take..Diwali n X'mas always give me a reason to smile...Thanku for incorporating both!

Unknown said...

@ doksaab- shukriya..aapka vote humesha hi keemti hota hai..:)

@kaveesh- Yay Yay..:)(i like ur 'Yay Yay' )with cheering cheering, whistle whistle hehe..increase some komments..i will follow you this time..haha..:)

Kaveesh said...

TD Aaye Haye...Light my fires n all...Haha!
For sure for sure...U getting married..everythings gonna be fiery..haha!
gr8 take..keep it short and sweet and gather accolades! very very nice!
N yeah...Kongrats for a new chapter in life!

Kaveesh said...

GSV: What beautiful lines..."I have been born to meet same fate"...and the tears that noone hears...Bhai..I am a candle maker...and this has always come to my mind...I melt the wax over heat..it crackles and it smokes...i give color to it and there it is..carved in another mould..I have always been fascinated by candles..The best lines..we also mould ourselves..take a new shape everytime in different situations..laugh, cry and go unheard..We do have the same fate!
Very Very beautiful!

Kaveesh said...

Kavish Sinha:I love my take this time...haha..n thats konfession!
I am a candlemaker and I love anything bout candles!
@Santonu: That meant that I am the same candle that is burnt and bruised in the crowd of candles in front of Mother Mary...It was my regular job to do this..hence cudnt afford to miss a mention of it! :)

Kaveesh said...

Sarang Bhai: Indeed that reminds of the monstrous shadows that petite objects can cast in candlelight..Hummingnerd is true in reference to the "night of the Scorpion"..haha..I also remember Julius Caesar when Brutus says.."look how this taper burns"..n sees the ghost of Caesar...What a lovely interpretation of Candle...On one side it gives light..on the other it scares the soul outta us!
Awesum imagery...gr8 poetic leverage!

Kaveesh said...

SwetaHow sumtimes one must die to see the fulfillment of one;s destiny...What interpretation! Kudos!
Gr8 debut..with only a few world overflowing...I took it to 262..haha!
i liked how u followed erratic rhyming to create an effective take which is indeed very very complicated!
Shows ur passion for writing...Welkome to this exceptional world..We r indeed pleased to have u here!

Kaveesh said...

Genuine:U seriously cant be fake at all! Everything that u write is so genuine;)..Gr8 take..Awesum depiction of an undepicted parental plight!
Makes u fall in love with ur parents..especially ur Dad..always!
Pa! am koming!...:)

Kaveesh said...

HummingNerd: I hereby wish to Konfess that he indeed is a gizmo..Half my technical troubles from a virus in my comp to a technical flaw in dance!
Ur klash is the best from u so far..I felt so! "A new candle is all we need"..Dunno if u intended symbolism in this one but I happened to get it!
Very invoking..gr8 didactism and philosophy! Love it thru n thru!

Kaveesh said...

Anonymous: ??!!??? Who art thou?? But very very well done!
i still remember the
Live.Long.Life and many such expansions..gr8 one! darkness flickering..Light holds sway..Love these two lines!
Welkome to u too...i think u r new..!?

Kaveesh said...

konfessioner Singh: aka Goddess Singh...Had I any clue that the portrait cud have done this to u..i wud have stopped the honor then n there!
Baap re Baap! I was boggled n whipped to see such stuff for meagerly intelligent people like me. Took me a re-brushing of all the blessed lingos that i know! Still cudnt manage to get it! U showed me this one b4 u put this up for klash..even then I knew it was sumthin for Goddess Saraswati and hence commended it...Haye!Sab meri hi galti hai!
Haha..but I dun wish to reprieve..Its worth all the mistake! Gr8 Gr8 work..Stupendous fallacy and symbolism.
"I have whistled along paths up mountains
only to be defeated
by winds of a different kind."
These swayed me too..beautiful lines..how do i pay homage to the Goddess who resides in Lucknow..!??

Kaveesh said...

N now for the highly kontemplated and psychologically terrifying voting procedure...Phewww!
My Vote goes to...
Aahmm..Ummm..Ahem...Can I not vote this time?? Puhleez!

I considered Humm, Sarang Bhai and GSV for my vote and Shin Singh for my "mahavote"..She doesn't deserve to kounted along..!!

My vote i guess...is for GSV..for his beautiful same fate as that of a candle...Humm Humm is my poetic take and Sarang Bhai..the fantasy winner..All 3 deserve it..but had to vote for one!

@GSV...do clear the last line..Was it...Why i die everytime 'with' a piece of candle or "for" it?
Both wud be nice..but calrification needed!

Thanku..that i have finished writing..Its been 3 hours now!

I love kommenting on komments! ;)

But first My Komments--

1. Mickey-- I am in love with you and your antiks, I totally understand why Jane likes you haha. Oh I can even imagine your voice when you say "I was just smelling them" haha. Wonder what Jane's mom is like..!!!

2. Nandini-- This is about Jessica Lall.. I've been waiting for Knk to speak up..I see it now. Beautifully written. The matchstick burns itself to light the candle, and the candle melts away in its memory, while holding up a blazing light. a beautiful little girl memory...don't we all have these little ones at the back of our heads..? This is a precious klash Nandini..well done!

3. Dok Saab-- This Diwali and one before this, bhaiya and I lit all the diyas..I know what bonding happens over this simple 'lighting' tradition...and I can imagine Chottu wide eyed..beautiful. 119 could have been 120 if you put a "the" in front of "afternoon".

4. TD-- I love how Mickey puts it, "he's getting tied up and you're congratulating the poor chap" hahaha...about the short poem..I don't feel like checking if its a haiku because it makes much of an impact even without the structure.

More in a bit...

@dok saab : Sir,mujhe lag raha tha aap aisa sochoge, tab hi toh i wrote the reason below the vote.see,u r my senior, but i cant vote for u cos of that.is baar kiya, par agli baar?the reason i voted for u this time was cos ur poem answered a question to an innner[and wid ppl] battle im ongoing.i wanna b a 'spark',professionally n as a person, but no one i know seems to b understanding that.not my parents, friends, siblings.so i was quite discouraged till i read ur poem.ok na?
@richa: woh main hoon,[blush blush]jise na hindi na urdu aati...but i can read and write both lingos.i thot shagird meant eternal slave or somethin.hehe.but thanks :oD
@kavish : thanks4ur welcome.i am already enjoyin klash!lookat me hardly 1 poem old n havin d time of my life...wohoo!

Kaveesh said...

haha...GSV..We need ur komments!

Unknown said...

@ kaveesh- thanks bhai for voting..pata nahi yaar tumne kaise decide kiya..its difficult to choose.. all of them(including u:))have written so nice..:)
p.s- ur clarification-in most cases'shamma' jalti rehti hai 'parwane' ke baad bhi..hence used 'for' instead of 'with'.

Unknown said...

my komments and votes for this week-

@ Mickey the monkey- It happens, with humans also..a rope appears snake..! so dont worry, u were monkey only..:) nice take mickey but take care of ur confusions..

Unknown said...

@ Nandini Sen- Candle light procession,,, hoping factor mixed with Matchstick-Candle theorem( I liked the 'theorem' very much but the 'corollary' din't matched)..but it was different, realistic and good writeup ..:)

Unknown said...

@ Dok Saab- a very natural take doksaab..inquisitive chhotu's character was nicely depicted..a sparkle can ignite the whole world, true..:) 120 words limit this time troubled you ..had to shorten and adjoin ur name..Man(oj) da....:)

Unknown said...

@ Truth Dude- a complete poem in nine words..! shaadi ke liye good wishes:)

Unknown said...

@ Kaveesh Sinha- ur poem rhymes so nice and represents Candle almost in its true light mr chandler..:)

Unknown said...

@ Sarang Mahajan- brilliant visualisation ! 'dancing shadows' in candlelight..good writeup..:)

Unknown said...

@ Dr Sweta Singh aka coffeeismypoison- maybe a long name caused a little long poem(according to klash norms only)...haha...:) ur 'poem' contained all the properties, the flow, rythm, meaning.. a good one.. !

Unknown said...

@ Genuine Fake- genuinely very emotional write up,,so simple and such effective.!. there was much more in ur take than Candle, it was never the central idea..but used at a very proper place...'eye'

Unknown said...

@ Hummingnerd-' inevitable metaphors' would definately bring 'Fame' to ur writing..:) ur second para was like a 'dialogue' from pirates of the carribean..haha....:) last para was thought evoking...:) liked it!

Unknown said...

@ Anonymous- i have drawn this type of painting once( i call it painting...)..mr/ms Anonymous! who are you...err.. thats a silly question to ask..you are ANONYMOUS..:)

Unknown said...

@ Konfessioner Singh- Surely your komments over ur creation helped so much to get it correctly..still don't knw how much correctly.!! haha.:) liked the use of these terms' bardo', butter lamp, panchkosha,in ur poetry .. 'original was 'dhaaran ve dharan kad'..:and 'Is my Candle yet unlit' ? i like these kind of questions much....:) well knowledge ki devi maa saraswati ki upma mein aapki kavita humein pasand aayi..itni difficult nahi thi..!!..haha..

My komments kontd--

5. GSV-- I have always, always wanted to read something about a candle from a gnat's perspective..well done. You have my vote for sheer kreativity!

6. Kavish-- The candle's perspective, this is beautiful... but why the I am spent five times in sorrow is there a significance to the 5?!! I love your rhythm and the many places the candle is..in a hovel, by Mother Mary, between lovers.. etc. Great imagery..of your three posts, this is my favourite so far! well done!

And you write very very encouraging komments, I'm sure the komrades will agree..!! :)

7. Sarang-- Not your magical best I'm afraid.. :( I think the third person language stole some of the cool quotient from the post.. I loved the idea but it just didnt seem written right!

8.Sweta-- Lovely post! It has so much in it and it that lies it shortfall.. there is the candle between lovers witnessing so much and that is captured very well, then there is the candle which teaches us how to give light and be consumed.. consumed by two different passions.. This could've been shorter if you divided the poem into 2 and didn't repeat the wonderful little stanza.. but I think that would've taken away the magic, I will mail you a 120 word version of the same..just so you get the drift. And overall, GREAT first attempt! :) We'd love to see you here, every week!

9. Genuine Fake-- I love the twist. I thought this was a lover! or maybe only I did!?!!(typical of me!) This is painful since it's for a father... and how ambition takes you away from what you really loved.

10. Hummingnerd-- TRULY INSPIRATIONAL! i have been reciting this aloud and if I didnt have my heart set on GSV, I'd have voted for you... "A new candle is all we need", you got it spot on!

11. Anonymous-- Why be sooooo invisible!!! :) Gorgeous little Acronym Poem you got there!

@Shin: Thats all I can do love. I am so proud to be sharing the same writing space as all ov them..n They deserve nuthing less than encouragement if not accolades!
Mrvellous place to be at n in and within!

Kaveesh said...

@SHINJINI: The five times..gud question...i wondered how noone asked me bout that..
In sum cultures of the world there are 5 cardinal directions including the center.Every direction..when sumone mourns the death or loss or darkness...a candle is burnt...thats why!
I hope it sounds feasible!

Wow..So many Komments...Beautiful word, Beautiful Klashes and Beautiful Komments...

Kaveesh, you should be named the official Kommentator...haha..as I have mentioned before I love the way you komment..and glad I solved your technical problems..I solved mine this week too..

Missy, CMOS battery of my mother-board. I was afraid to take it out(to reset) 'coz I read somewhere that if you put it the other way around..your mother-board will die...(That is exactly what i read in one of the forums. I guess, he was an Indian too..lol)..so I had to wait for 3 nights for my technical person to come and do just that...The problem to many complicated things is always so simple

Sarang Mahajan said...

Please take only my vote here, I shall komment in detail soon.

I think GSV deserves the vote, though Dok Saab and Hummingnerd were close.

Mustafa Quilon said...

Oh! Thanks for the vote GSV bhai..POTC :o kaise?....hahaha...also...are you a mathematician or got anything to do with analytics..?

@ Missy..wow...I'm indeed very happy. The votes come secondary...I'm just too glad to be on this platform among you wonderful people.. :)

@ mickey...I get it now..and are you rich..? or is Jane really attracted towards you...If it is love..then...did she FALL in love or GET in love...hahaha..j/k...And women falling for monkeys seems disturbing to me...Also, I'm sorry if I'm getting too personal...:p

P.S- I'm amazed by the consistency in your kreativity..just wanted more of it...hahaha :D

I never wished this purple krown, the reason being-

after winning this you get komments like-"ahem ahem, woh baat nahi thi..! :)

- the verse which inspired me to write this time was-
"seekh zaheen ke dil se jalna, kahe ko har shamma pe jalna..
jo khud apni hi aag mein jal jaaye, tu aisa parwana ban ja.."
and i feel i could'nt do justice to the Idea by my writing..just the Idea clicked and fetched votes...many fo

-I am already wearing a turban,"purple krown" might not suit my image..[:D]

But i am so much glad to be part of you all...:) thank you all for bearing my bad grammar, and weak vocabulary...:)

Thanks giving(i really mean it!) ceremony shall follow in next post very soon followed by proposing a "new word"..i am not giving a phrase this time
